A mixture of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium probiotics as well as oligofructose prebiotics was associated with a reduction in the oxidation of LDL, linked to the hardening of the arteries. Results from this EU and MicroFunction Project found that the total antioxidant activity of the participants taking synbiotic supplements was higher than the placebo subjects.
