An apple a day keeps the doctor away!

Researchers at the University of Denmark have been performing studies to discover just why “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”. Apples contain a large amount of pectin, a dietary fibre which may act as a prebiotic and stimulate the proliferation of probiotics, or friendly bacteria in the gut. Amongst other benefits, these probiotics are thought to produce a beneficial substance (butyrate) which fuels our intestinal lining cells and also help maintain our intestines at optimal pH levels.
