Prebiotic potential in Cocoa flavanols

Posted 1 year ago by Soraya in General Health News

A new study from Mars and the University of Reading has found that cocoa flavanols could have a bifidogenic effect, meaning that they could work as a prebiotic and help to boost probiotics in the gut. The double-blind, randomised trial, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, included 21 healthy adults  and lasted for four weeks.  Results showed an increase in gut levels of probiotic populations during the high-cocoa phase compared with the low-cocoa phase.

OptiBac says: Perhaps you can enjoy your chocolates with a bit less guilt this Christmas! Although evidence is preliminary, so don't forget your OptiBac meanwhile ;)
