Researchers at the University of Nottingham have found that eating more fruit and vegetables can work wonders for the skin - resulting in a healthier glow than that obtained from the sun! The study, published in the Journal Evolution and Human Behaviour, was led by Dr Ian Stephen who commented that although people think of suntans as the best way to improve skin colour '...our research shows that eating lots of fruit and vegetables is actually more effective.' The improvement in appearance of skin was put down to caotenoids; antioxidants responsible for the red tones in fruit and vegetables such as tomatos and carrots, and which are important for the immune and reproductive systems.
