Acidophilus (Lactobacillus acidophilus)
|
Acidophilus is a particular species of probiotic, from the Lactobacillus genus. It has been well researched in various areas including traveller’s diarrhoea, Candida overgrowth and antibiotic-associated thrush or diarrhoea. Lactobacillus acidophilus is a natural resident of both the intestinal and vaginal microflora.
It is worth bearing in mind that acidophilus can come in varying strains and strengths. At OptiBac Probiotics we use a strain of acidophilus called Lactobacillus acidophilus Rosell-52; registered in the collection National de Culture de Microorganisms (CNCM) at the Institut Pasteur. Lactobacillus acidophilus Rosell-52 has been shown to contain beta-galactosidase, which breaks down lactose.
