Saccharomyces boulardii is a probiotic yeast, unique from the more common probiotic species such as Lactobacillus acidophilus. Saccharomyces boulardii is a transient probiotic (meaning that it passes through the system without binding to the gut wall lining.) It has undergone rigorous clinical research demonstrating its ability to bind to and flush out pathogens such as E. coli and Salmonella, thereby naturally working against diarrhoea. S. boulardii has also been shown to have considerable anti-inflammatory properties and to help clear fungal overgrowth such as that caused by Candida albicans.
