What are live cultures?

Live, or active cultures, refer to the microorganisms found in foods such as yoghurt. The words ‘live cultures’, ‘friendly bacteria’ or ‘good bacteria’ are increasingly used instead of the term ‘probiotics’. A common example of a live cultures species is Lactobacillus acidophilus.
