OptiBac Probiotics strains reduce antibiotic side effects such as diarrhoea
A new study, yet to be fully published, has revealed that four of the strains found in For daily wellbeing EXTRA Strength, including Lactobacillus acidophilus NCFM®, Bifidobacterium lactis Bl-04, Bifidobacterium lactis Bi-07, and Lactobacillus paracasei Lpc-37, may reduce the incidence of antibiotic associated diarrhoea (AAD) and Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea (CDAD) during and after antibiotic use.
The triple-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled study was comprised of a group of 503 healthy adult patients using antibiotic therapy. Researchers aimed to investigate the incidence of AAD after supplementation of For daily wellbeing EXTRA Strength compared to those in the group given a placebo. The team also wanted to discover if the probiotic formula effected the severity and duration of AAD and CDAD, as well as other symptoms such as; bloating and abdominal pain, stool frequency and consistency, bloody stools, and fever.
The results were very positive, with the probiotic formulation shown to be effective in reducing the severity of AAD. The participants also experienced a significant reduction in the number of episodes of AAD, the duration of diarrhoeal episodes and also revealed a significant reduction in symptoms associated with diarrhoea such as bloating, fever and abdominal pain.
Whilst this study is still currently pending for publication, we're delighted to see such a positive outcome in this large trial. We can't wait to read the full study.
